B&W CT700 Series

If you think epic home theatre sound requires an epic budget to match, think again. The CT700 Series represents nothing less than a revolution in what can be achieved when space and budget are limited. Incorporating state-of-the-art B&W innovations such as Kevlar drive unit cones and Nautilus tube-loaded tweeters, the CT700 Series creates cinema sound more lifelike, more immersive, and more powerful than you would have imagined possible. And it brings you all this in compact design that can be adapted for many different home theatre environments, large or small. Forget compromise: with a CT700 system, what you get is nothing less than a genuinely cinematic experience in your own home.
Main Channels
Designed to slot discreetly into custom-built cabinetry, every speaker in the CT700 range can take on either front, centre or surround duties within a multi-channel theatre set-up. Each speaker used Kevlar drive units, and features B&W’s famous Nautilus tube-loaded tweeters – a pioneering technology that draws away and dampens distorting sound waves from the rear of the drive units, thereby producing a much purer sound from the front.
The CT7.5 LCRS has a single 7” Kevlar bass/midrange unit, while the CT7.4 LCRS features two 6.5” Kevlar bass/midrange drivers. At the top end of the range, the CT7.3 LCRS offers powerful bass effects and wonderfully life-like detail by combining two 8” paper/Kevlar® bass units with a single Kevlar FST drive unit dedicated to midrange frequencies.
Bass and Power
In a CT700 system, the bass channel should be provided by one of our two specially designed CT SW subwoofers: the CT SW10 or the CT SW12. Each features a single, very long-throw driver in either a 10-inch or a 12-inch, with a cone composed of a paper/Kevlar composite. CT SW subwoofers have a closed-box design that makes them easy to install in cabinetry.
Both CT SW subs are intended for use with the SA 1000 subwoofer amplifier. This deceptively compact unit (it’s less than four inches tall and weighs in at 17 pounds) produces an astounding 1,000 watts of subwoofer-range power, thanks to its ultra-efficient Class D amplifier design. The SA 1000’s equalisation is custom-tailored to the CT SW subs, delivering deep-bass extension all the way to 16 Hz. And why stop at just one subwoofer? For really serious bass, it’s possible to use the SA 1000 to power two subs simultaneously.
Mix and match
A CT700 system is as versatile as it is powerful. The speakers are rigorously engineered so that the timbre and overall dynamic characteristics of each model in the range matches precisely. This means you can build your own CT700 home theatre sound system using any combination of models in any position.
Designed to be installed into concealed locations behind acoustically transparent screens or custom cabinetry, each speaker in the range is finished in durable matt black and comes with blue Kevlar drive unit cones, which help to eliminate any unwanted reflections from projectors or other light sources. So while you can’t fail to notice the incredible sound quality, the speakers themselves are all but invisible.
Technology
The CT700 Series is built around ground-breaking technologies that belie its entry-level status. Each model in the range features our famous Nautilus tube-loaded tweeters: a highly specialised colouration-reducing technology that was first introduced in our pioneering Nautilus speaker and has since been refined and adapted for use in our most advanced speaker models.
At the upper end of the range, the CT7.3 LCRS includes an FST (fixed suspension transducer) midrange drive unit. Originally developed for our reference-standard speakers, the FST uses a flexible foamed polymer support under the cone rim, designed to absorb the bending waves that, in conventional drivers with rubber roll surrounds, can bounce back and forth between the centre and outer edge of the cone and muddy the sound.
The result? A far more accurate, responsive cone, and the kind of crystal clarity you’d expect to find only in a much more expensive speaker.
